Emily Lawrence, the grandmother of Nigel Horne, was born in St Lawrence, Thanet, Kent, England on Sep 30, 18871,2,3,4,5,6,7, was baptized there on Nov 13, 1887 and married James Cowell (a seaman collier with the whitstable shipping company with whom she had 9 children: Frederick James, Charles John, Emily Edith, Henry Richard Stephen, Reginald Albert, James Sidney, Dorothy Helen, Freda Violet and Joyce Margaret) at Thanet Registry Office, Thanet, Kent, England on Jan 7, 190910 (Married at Thanet Registry Office). She also had 1 child, Lilian Florence, whose father is unknown.

Emily spent all of her life in Kent, England.
